School Resource Officer
Greetings!
My name is Officer William Silvia. I have been a member of the Portsmouth Police Department since 2023 and am honored to serve as your School Resource Officer here at Portsmouth High School! I have worked in the field of law enforcement since 2017 and have been a member of the US Armed Forces since 2011. In addition to being a POST-certified police officer in Rhode Island, I also hold ALICE and LEAD certifications – both of which are directly applicable in educational settings.
I am a guest instructor for the CTE Pathway for Criminal Justice Program offered here at Portsmouth High School, as well as an instructor for the Portsmouth Police Department Citizens Police Academy. I recently obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern New Hampshire University in Criminal Justice and will be continuing my Master's program at Salve Regina University in the Administration of Justice program.
Here at Portsmouth High School I strive to be a positive role model and community liaison. I thoroughly enjoy working with teachers and presenting in classrooms while learning about our community. I look forward to the opportunity of interacting with new and continuing students to provide them with guidance and help them with any issues that may arise. My primary focus is maintaining a safe learning environment for both students and faculty members alike.
Goals of the SRO program:
Being visible within the school community to help deter criminal activity and student misconduct
Attending and participating in various school functions
Building positive working relationships with students, parents, and faculty
Promoting the profession of law enforcement and being a positive role model to students
Working with faculty members to establish a safe and secure learning environment
Please feel free to contact me anytime with any concerns or questions. You can reach me by e-mail (silviaw@portsmouthschoolsri.org) or by phone at 401-683-2124 ext. 2400.
Very respectfully,
