GRADUATION INFORMATION
GRADUATION CEREMONY: Graduation will be held on Friday, June 6th at 6:00 pm on the football field at Portsmouth High School. Seniors should report to the cafeteria no later than 5:00 PM. Students are asked to carpool or get dropped off since parking will be at a premium.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: If the forecast calls for inclement weather, graduation will be held indoors in the PHS Field House. A listserv message will go out as soon as the determination is made on graduation day.
GRADUATION ATTIRE: Students are required to wear proper attire to graduation. There may be no adornments on graduation robes except school-issued stoles and honor society cords. The flat surface on the cap (mortarboard) may be decorated. Decor on the mortarboard must adhere to the school dress code and may not rise more than 0.5” off of the mortarboard. We encourage graduates and guests to wear whatever footwear you find agreeable, including sandals, booties, flat bottom shoes and wedges. Because the event is being held on the turf, we respectfully ask that our graduates and guests refrain from wearing stiletto heels. The PHS Administration reserves the right to limit participation in the ceremony if students refuse to comply with appearance standards.
GRADUATION TICKETS: Each family will receive 7 graduation tickets. Providing there are no outstanding obligations, seniors will receive their tickets at Monday’s graduation rehearsal. DO NOT LOSE THESE TICKETS! Tickets will be required for on-field seating on the day of graduation. Additional guests will be allowed to observe the ceremony from the outside of the fenced area without tickets (i.e. bleachers, personal folding chairs etc). If the ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather, tickets will be required for entry due to limited seating capacity.
HANDICAP PARKING & SEATING: Additional parking will be marked as handicap parking for the ceremony. The entire visitor lot (across from the main office) as well as parking along the baseball field fence will be designated handicapped parking. If graduation is outside, handicap seating will be clearly identified on the football field. Indoor graduation has designated wheelchair areas in the front rows of the bleachers, and gaps will be designated in the chair seating area.
GRADUATION PHOTO: The official photographer of Portsmouth High School, Jennifer Carter Photography, will be on hand to take an official portrait of each senior receiving their diploma. Therefore, we ask that parents please remain behind the ribbon that will distinguish our graduates from guests. Each senior will receive a free 5 X 7 print. Photos will be mailed home over the summer. Information on how to order additional prints, at a nominal charge, will be included in the mailing.
